Located on College Street in Toronto’s Little Italy, Sixty-Five Degrees Steakhouse was host to a recent dinner on the town for the good folks here at Restaurant Guide Toronto. As connoisseurs of the almighty steak we were looking forward to a hearty meal at one of Toronto’s most well known restaurants.

From the fantastic shots on their website we were expecting the ambience to be outstanding, with red velvet booths and refined wood finishing how could it not be? Well, the setup is fair, but it really depends on where you happen to be seated; we ended up in the narrow set of tables across from the bar which provided an abundance of foot traffic and not much room to maneuver.

As in most dining experiences, the sum of your experience is often very dependent on the service you receive; unfortunately we had a rookie waiter, it had to have been his first night on the job. Drinks were tardy and the appetizers were still on the table when the main course arrived.

On to the steak. We had the full plethora of steak available - the 12oz New York was cooked to perfection, tender and flavourful; the 22oz bone in rib eye was huge, not as tender as we’d like, but still pretty good. Finally the 12oz filet mignon, rare, sure to be a hit, was unfortunately the worst of the bunch. In fact, it was severely underwhelming considering the quality of the other two dishes. The cook really missed the mark on this one with the steak coming out medium rather than the rare we ordered.

Overall: Not bad, but definetely not the best steak around.
